This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services.
At least 50 per cent of the educators who are required to meet the relevant educator to child ratios for the service must have, or be actively working towards an approved diploma level education and care qualification. A family day care co-ordinator must have an approved diploma level education and care qualification.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites required to enter this qualification. However, it is preferred that potential students either work in the industry or have sound prior experience in a childcare setting. We require that students students studying at Diploma level have at least Year 10 or equivalent.
You will also be required to obtain a National Police Clearance check and a NSW Working with Children Check http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check if you do not have them.

- Duration The course combines face to face classroom based learning, workplace based practical placement and assessment and self paced study and assessment. There are four intakes annually and the course duration is 12 months, with 36 weeks face to face, excluding term breaks and public holidays. Volume of learning guidelines allow for up to 2 years to complete Diploma level study, so you may apply for an extension if you need more time. Once you have enrolled, you will be given all course materials and detailed information about assessment requirements and assessment submission. Students are required to attend face to face classes two days a week. As part of this course you are required to undertake up to 240 hours of Structured Workplace Learning in a registered child care facility, supervised by a qualified staff member. Recognition of Prior Learning If you work in the industry,have had prior experience or would like to seek recognition for a combination of skills and experience, RPL is available for this course.
