The CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) qualification gives graduates the skills and knowledge to work as Personal Care Assistants (PCA) or Assistants in Nursing (AIN), providing personal care to the elderly and assistance with activities of daily living. Graduates will gain the minimum qualification to be able to work in residential care settings such as nursing homes, hostels, supported accommodation and private homes.
This qualification is considered the minimum industry standard to gain entry and employment in the Care industry. For existing workers, it is also the qualification staff need to maintain competency and remain in employment.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification. It is recommended that students are 16 years of age or older and have a sound understanding of English, good communication and interpersonal skills.
You will also be required to obtain a National Police Clearance check and in some jurisdictions a Working with Vulnerable People check.
Units and Structure
Duration
The course duration is 12 months (36 weeks without term breaks and public holidays) with students attending 1 day a week for 6.5 hours each day. This includes all learning and assessment activities.
Students will also complete 120 hours of mandatory work placement outside of the classroom face to face timings.
Recognition of Prior Learning
If you work in the industry,have had prior experience or would like to seek recognition for a combination of skills and experience, RPL is available for this course. See Training NSW RPL Candidate Guide for an explanation of the RPL process and then ask our staff if you are interested.
