Entry Requirements

As stipulated by SLED, students must satisfy the following requirements

Be 18 years of age or over
Must have a current HLTAID011 Provide first aid certificate prior to enrolment
You must provide 100 Points of Identification upon enrolment
Be a fit and proper person to hold the class of licence sought
Meet prescribed Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements, which includes completing a SLED Pre-Enrolment test at least one week prior to course commencement day. You must attend in person at a Star Training campus in order to complete the testing and to complete mandatory paperwork from the NSW Police Force.
LLN Testing is conducted at Granville Campus:
First Session : 10:00am – 12:00pm Monday – Friday
Second Session: 1:00pm – 3:00pm Monday – Friday
Be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
Must have a Driver Licence, Photo Card from Service NSW.

Course Information

What to bring and wear

Must bring 100 Points of Identification
Note pad and a pen
Neat and tidy clothing and enclosed footwear at all times
Ensure personal hygiene is a priority and be considerate of other students as you are in a group environment for extended periods. Please wear clean clothing and ensure you use personal hygiene products like deodorant.

Duration

This program consists of 300 hours of total learning & assessment, including 120 hours of pre-course distance learning, 2 weeks face to face component in the classroom and additional supported, self-study.
Those candidates who need extra time and feel they may not be ready to complete all self-study requirements and assessments by the end of the 2 weeks classroom period, you have up to 3 months to complete all learning and assessments if required.

Enrolment Process

Bringing 100 points of original IDs.
Complete a SLED Pre-Enrolment Assessment (LLN Skills Testing), you must pass this to be accepted on a course. Bring an original or certified original copy of your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. If you do not have a first aid certificate we can book you in for training. For more information click here.
If successful with your LLN skills testing, provided all documents, and have read Fact Sheet 6 as well as the Student Handbook. That contains the Refund and Fee Policy, Course Conditions and signed the Acknowledgement Form, you may then pay your enrollment fee, you will then receive your pre-course material.
You will be provided a date for the commencement of class room face-to-face training

To work in NSW as a Security Officer, new entrants will be required to complete the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, comprising 14 Units of Competency. This is the new program which came into effect on 1 June 2023 with new requirements.

The course covers the basic legal, operational and practical skills to start working in the manpower (Class 1) sector of the security industry. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to apply to SLED for their FULL NSW Class 1A security licence
